Professional Overview

Peyton Murphy is the founder of Murphy Law Firm, LLC, a Baton Rouge personal injury firm he established in 1993. For more than three decades, he has built a reputation for fighting relentlessly on behalf of injured clients in Louisiana and across the country. His practice focuses on serious personal injury, mass tort, and class action cases, including automobile and 18-wheeler crashes, wrongful death, mesothelioma and asbestos-related claims, defective medical devices, product liability, and complex civil litigation.

Peyton is a trial-tested advocate who prepares every case with one goal in mind: winning. His approach is aggressive and uncompromising—if insurance companies do not offer a fair resolution, he is ready to take the case to trial. He is not an attorney who simply settles for the first offer, and the insurance industry recognizes his willingness to pursue justice in the courtroom when necessary.

Before founding the firm, Peyton worked as a law clerk and handled insurance defense work—experience that now helps him anticipate and counter insurance company tactics on behalf of his clients. Licensed in Louisiana since 1993, he has devoted his career to personally understanding each client’s situation and relentlessly advocating for their legal rights in state and federal courts.

About Peyton Murphy

Record Verdicts & Trial Experience

Peyton Murphy has secured multiple record-setting verdicts throughout his career. After a nearly three-week jury trial, he won an $18.9 million judgment for his client—more than four times the insurer’s pre-trial offer of $4.3 million. That case ultimately became the largest single-event case ever decided by the Louisiana Supreme Court.

In 2013, Peyton obtained a $758,000 judgment for a sternoclavicular (SC) joint injury, far surpassing the insurer’s $200,000 offer. That verdict remains one of the highest SC joint injury verdicts reported in Louisiana and the United States. Over his career, Peyton has tried hundreds of cases in Louisiana state and federal courts and handled appeals in the Louisiana courts of appeal, the U.S. Fifth Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States.

Leadership, Teaching & Professional Involvement

Beyond his trial work, Peyton serves on the Council of Directors for the Louisiana Association for Justice.
He is also committed to legal education, contributing his expertise through negotiation lectures at
Tulane Law School where he helps train the next generation of attorneys.
